Rumours that have persisted in Cameroon that the explosion could have been a neutron bomb test.
Dans une sorte de superstition moderne, plusieurs personnes sont maintenant prêtes à croire que le désastre du lac Nyos a été humainement créé. Selon la publication américaine, le National Enquirer, parmi toutes les théories qui sous-tendent la « superstition » en question, la plus forte en celle d´essais secrets américains d´une arme meurtrière – la bombe à neutrons. Il y a ceux qui soutiennent leur théorie de complot en la comparant au comportement du gouvernement durant un incident semblable au lac Monoum il y a de cela deux ans.

Deutscher Kolonialismus in Buea (Bakweriland)
Wer in Kamerun nach Spuren der deutschen Kolonialherrschaft sucht, macht sich in der Regel auf den Weg nach Buea. Der am Südosthang des Mount Cameroon gelegene Ort diente der deutschen Verwaltung von 1901 bis 1914 als Regierungssitz. Das Bergklima war den Beamten angenehmer als die Schwüle im malariaverseuchten Küstenland. Heutige Reiseführer werben zusätzlich mit Ausblicken auf einen deutschen Friedhof, auf den Bismarck-Brunnen mit dem steinernem Porträt des Reichskanzlers und auf den prunkvollen wilhelminischen Palast des einstigen Gouverneurs Jesko von Puttkamer.

BAKWERI ARMED RESISTANCE TO GERMAN COLONIALISM, 1891 – 1894
Contrary to widely- held beliefs that the Bakweri made no effort whatsoever to resist the spoliation of their lands by the Germans, they did in fact mount a fierce anti-German campaign, particularly around the slopes of Mount Fako, and successfully inflicted a humiliating defeat on the Germans at Buea in 1891.
The story of Bakweri military resistance against the Germans is also the story of Chief KUV’A LIKENYE of Buea, whose epic clashes with German troops remain one of the most glorious chapters in Cameroonian history.
