NGONDO 2005: A POSITIVE ASSESSMENT

Started last October 26, the Ngondo ended on a good note on the banks of river wouri, on December 4. For nine days, the sawa people were keen on promoting their culture and tradition, to redefine it, in order to definitely bring it to the fore for the well being of its natives.

Apart from the mobilization of administrative, political and traditional personalities not forgetting the elites, the population and economic operators, the 2005 version of Ngondo raised great interest for the respect of traditional values, one is even tempted to affirm that the Ngondo, under the theme “Bolo o munja”, was a great success. To attain this result, the executive bureau of the Ngondo, headed by Chief Paul Mylord MBAPPE BWANGA assisted by Secretary general, MONY MONY AKWA II, affirmed, during a press conference, that it would only raise the sum of 200 million francs of functional budget, for this great event.

THE MEN AND GREAT ARTICULATIONS

From November 26 to December 04, 2005 the feast of water took place on many sites, be it at the “Mukanda”, head-office of Ngondo, the “Salle des fêtes” of Akwa or at the “Parc des princes”, at Bali. Venues that were all full to capacity judging from the great human concentration attracted by the benefits of the values of Ngondo.

Events like the semi marathon, the best sawa choir competition, traditional dances and ballets, the election of miss Ngondo (Eyombwe), the Duala language dictation competition, the traditional wrestling competition (Besua) constituted great moments of culture. The few excursions to the cantons of Njoh Njoh (Belle canton), Bona Ebele (Deido), Bakoko-Wouri, Bele Bele Bonambela (Akwa) were of great interest. Reason why the sawa youth turned out massively and proved its genius and talent through the lively expression of its theatrical performances, for example with dance groups like Ngosso, Abele with Ngando Picket, not forgetting the Ambassi Bey dance groups. Great moments too, with men of culture who brilliantly recounted the history on the theme “Bolo o munja”.

In this light we can name Misters MANGA MANGA and NGANDO BEBEY, who during press conferences, brought out the physical and metaphysical aspect of the mystery of water, proving that the sawa people have always communed with the entities of the marine space. A marriage of convenience since the beginning of time. At the beginning, God’s spirit floated on waters, thus the great importance of the Ngondo feast, whose anniversary is celebrated each year, in principle in the month of December. With as apotheosis the message of the ancestors who live in the water entities called “miengu”.

THE GREAT MOMENTS

There were a lot of fairy moments, be it at the beginning as well as at the end, thanks to the availability of traditional rulers, the devotion of the elites, the men and women who efficiently put hands together for the success of this quite particular Ngondo.
The sawa youth has been inspired by their marks, their ancestors, by their dramatic stories and history. Like that of Jébalé, this water entity that must have been the descendant of the Jébalé and Bodjongo.

The wrestling champions “besua”, like SAME SAME Jules, great winner of the “besua” competition, comes from the bele-bele canton, he is the 4th champion from the said canton. Meanwhile the star, which illuminated the Ngondo night, at the parc des princes, Miss ENANGUE Njoh of Lycée Joss, in form 5, came from the Bona Ebele canton to beat other contestants. However, the Ngondo would not have recorded such a great success without the support of an enterprise, which is citizen oriented and at the same time culturally responsible.

PMUC has been from start to finish, one factor of the success of Ngondo, in terms of sponsorship. The event in itself pulled more than 200,000 people on the banks of river Wouri, starting 9 a.m. this Sunday, December 04, 2005. The canoe race with the Nkam-Nkam canoe sponsored by PMUC, the swimming competition and the immersion of the sacred vase were great moments of concentration and communion.

Especially the diving of an envoy into the deep wouri river, where the ancestors of the sawa people sent a message that was related to the theme “bolo o munja”, whose content "hope – blessing – nativity"wealthiness in the effort of this year” for a long-term development, touched the collective conscience of this august assembly.

A questioning message after all, and which would not leave the sons and daughters of the sawa community indifferent. Prizes and awards to the different laureates (oarsmen, swimmers, traditional wrestlers, elected ladies) galvanized their efforts. This great traditional feast ended on a note of hope and the appointment has been taken for 2006.
